BASQUE LINEN
Today it is largely unknown, but linen was very important in the Basque Country from the 16th century onwards, being especially significant for the women of the area. They were the ones in charge of its cultivation and care, which gave them an economic independence that was unusual at the time.
With industrialization in the 20th century, which came hand in hand with the rise of large lobbies for other fabrics such as cotton, little by little the linen industry diminished until it was practically non-existent. Having to resort today to European countries such as France or Belgium for importation .
PROPERTIES AND QUALITIES
There are many properties and qualities of linen that captivated us.
It is ecological and hardly needs water for its cultivation, which helps save water. It is also characterized by being thermoregulatory , which allows both the garment and the skin of our little ones to breathe and consequently requires fewer washes. This is great!
On the other hand we can talk about its durability. Due to the previously mentioned characteristics, those garments made with linen last and last over time, a wonder! In this way we can create a capsule wardrobe with linen garments and join this trend of responsible consumption.
